Colonel Katherine (Kat) Miller
United States Army, Retired.
Director, Nevada Department of Veteran Services

Colonel Miller grew up in Reno before embarking on a 34-year career in the Army. She began as an enlisted soldier before rising through the ranks as a Military Police Officer. Her duty stations included several state-side posts as well as a deployment to Afghanistan. Her final assignment was at Fort Lewis, Washington where she
was the Commander of a Military Police Brigade. Colonel Miller also commanded the Department of Defense’s largest correctional organization.

Following retirement, Colonel Miller taught at the University of Maryland and at the University of Nevada at Reno. She holds a Master of Strategic Studies Degree from the Army War College and a Master of Public Administration from Roosevelt University.

Following a year as the Deputy Director, Colonel Miller was appointed as the Director of Nevada’s Department of Veteran Services by then-Governor Brian Sandoval in 2013. She was reappointed by Governor Steve Sisolak in 2019.
